Do you know the identity of the girl in this painting by Newlyn School artist Harold C Harvey?
The Cornishman
AN ART collector is hoping that someone in west Cornwall can identify the girl in this painting.
Malcolm Andrews purchased The Yellow Blouse by famous Newlyn artist Harold C Harvey in 2012 and since then has been trying to discover the identity of the young subject.
A fan of the work of the Newlyn artists, Mr Andrews has acquired a collection of paintings and researched their history.
Now he is hoping to do the same with his latest find.
"I hope somebody might be able to recognise the sitter," said Mr Andrews. "It's signed and dated 1939; she's about seven or eight years old, so she was probably born about 1930."
Harold C Harvey (1874-1941) was a Newlyn School painter known for his scenes of working-class people – fishermen and miners – and of Cornish landscapes.
Originally from Cornwall, Mr Andrews now lives in Somerset but regularly visits the county.
If you recognise the girl in the painting, or have any more details, you can contact Mr Andrews on 01643 709933.
